Are you struggling with a chronic health condition? Can’t seem to get relief? Dr. Sheila Dyer, ND, offers naturopathic solutions which may help. She has a special interest in the following conditions:

We get the vast majority of our nutrients through our digestive system. So when your digestive system isn’t working the way it should, it can have wide-ranging consequences for your health. In fact, many seemingly unrelated symptoms and health conditions can be linked back to trouble with your digestive system.

Dr. Sheila offers naturopathic solutions focused on healing your gut. The goal is to address the root cause of your symptoms to get you feeling great once more.

Are you finding unsightly or irritating red spots on your skin? Is your hair dull, stringy, or falling out at an alarming rate? Is acne still rearing its ugly black- and whiteheads, even though you’re well past your pubescent years?

These and other skin conditions are generally not life-threatening, but they can still impact your quality of life. What’s more, they may be indicative of a deeper problem with your health. Trust Dr. Sheila to work to uncover the root cause of your skin condition and offer a plan designed to get rid of it, for good.

Have you been diagnosed with fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue, but offered no real solutions? Are you sick and tired of taking painkillers, but never understanding the root cause? Dr. Sheila offers real solutions designed to tackle the root cause and dramatically increase your quality of life.

Are you dealing with chronic pain or low energy that never improves? Is your digestion not quite right? Is your brain in a permanent fog? These are all signs and symptoms of a bigger problem. Dr. Sheila can help.

Our lives are becoming increasingly stressful. We’re expected to work longer hours at multiple jobs, and raise a family on top of it. So it’s little wonder that stress and burnout are becoming bigger problems. This is especially true for shift workers, and as a registered nurse, Dr. Sheila understands better than most.

Dr. Sheila can’t do anything about what’s causing you stress in your life. However, she can screen you for health conditions that might be affecting your stress response, to help you better cope with it the curveballs life throws your way.

Are you struggling with painful or irregular periods? Do you wake up each morning exhausted, no matter how much you slept? Are you less able to cope with the everyday stresses life throws at you? If so, you may have a hormonal imbalance.

Hormones are your body’s chemical messengers. Their job is to tell the various parts of your body what to do. And if they aren’t doing their job properly, it can cause the issues above, and many more. Thankfully, there are naturopathic solutions which may help.

Are you highly sensitive to temperature? Are you living with chronic pain, and can’t pinpoint the cause? Is your weight fluctuating despite no real changes in your lifestyle? If so, it may be linked to an autoimmune disorder.

When you have an autoimmune disorder, your body’s immune system attacks its own cells. While there is currently no known cure for autoimmune diseases, there are naturopathic solutions which may help ease your symptoms and improve your quality of life.

Dr. Sheila draws from many different modalities in her practice. Read on to find out more about what naturopathy can offer you.

The first step to solving a problem is to understand it. When you first meet Dr. Sheila, she’ll take the time to listen to your concerns.

Once she has a good understanding of what’s bothering you, she’ll explore your current state of health, including physical, mental, emotional, and environmental influences.

It’s only once a naturopath fully understands your health that they can provide a solution.

An ancient form of medicine, acupuncture offers a wonderful solution to many of the 21st century’s health issues.

If you’re dealing with stress, anxiety, digestive issues, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, or even chronic urinary tract infections, acupuncture can help.

It may seem a little intimidating at first, but most people say it doesn’t hurt at all, and in fact feels great.

Functional diagnostic testing is a new and growing method of detecting potential health issues before they become a problem.

A functional diagnostic medicine test is generally more comprehensive than the blood work you get from medical doctors.

If you’re living a demanding lifestyle, functional diagnostic testing can help you continue running at the highest level.

Everybody knows that eating your vegetables is good, and greasy fast food is bad. But there’s more to a healthy diet than just that.

What does your lifestyle demand of you, and what nutrients are you currently lacking? What foods do you have an allergy or sensitivity to? Are there any underlying health conditions certain nutrients may help with?

The solution to these problems is nutritional counseling.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re new to naturopathic medicine, you may have a lot of questions and preconceptions. Below, you’ll find some of the more common questions Dr. Sheila is asked. Don’t see your question answered? Contact Dr. Sheila and get your answer.

A naturopathic doctor is a primary healthcare practitioner, which means they provide treatment for a wide range of different health conditions. Different naturopathic doctors have different areas of special interest, but all naturopathic doctors are considered general healthcare practitioners.

Yes, a naturopathic doctor can requisition lab tests. Depending on your health condition, your naturopathic doctor may requisition tests on your blood, hair, urine, stool, saliva, and other tissues.

All naturopathic doctors must hold a valid doctor of naturopathy degree from an accredited naturopathic college in addition to an undergraduate degree. In this four year medical program, naturopathic students study many of the same things medical students do. There are seven accredited naturopathic colleges in North America, including one in Toronto.

Naturopathic doctors in Ontario are regulated by the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO). Among other things, they maintain a register of everyone who is licensed to provide services as a naturopathic doctor, as well as everyone who is currently known to be practicing fraudulently. Before seeing any naturopath, it’s a good idea to check if they’re registered on the CONO website.

Homeopathy is one of the tools in a naturopathic doctor’s belt. There are certain practitioners who specialize in homeopathy, which are called homeopaths. But a homeopath is not a naturopathic doctor unless they also hold a doctor of naturopathy degree. And vice versa, a naturopath is not a homeopath, though they may offer treatment for similar conditions.
